Mud & Bloom July 2020 Box // Review

Given that it is now summer holidays in England, and seeing Mud and Bloom advertised everywhere on my social medias I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try out this fun and interactive box designed for children in mind. Mud and Bloom was set up in December 2017 by a wonderful woman named Anja, who believed that all children, despite where they live should dive into the world of gardening and caring for plants and I have to agree, growing up in the countryside myself I have always been around farmers, big gardens, allotments and mud so I have always wanted to get my three children involved into the same sort of childhood I had and that I felt they always have missed out on this sort of thing being stuck in a two bedroom flat in a town. The boxes come through your letterbox every month with four crafty or gardening things to do that are easy for children, ranging from planting flowers and vegetables to using the garden and its flowers to make some lovely artwork or home crafts. July’s box is no exception with some seeds to grow some flowers and lettuce. Each task has… View Post

    My House Plants // Lifestyle

I have a lot of house plants, I am of course not ashamed of this fact because frankly, I love them dearly and they have brought me nothing but calm and happiness as I water them each week. My little obsession with beautiful house plants started with the desperate need to own a monstera, I had seen many people mention about these plant online and after much searching, I headed to the nearest garden centre, Van Hages, which I will be honest isn’t my closest but we was on our way there anyway, to browse house plants and purchase Monty the Monstera Deliciosa! While there I also picked myself up a beautiful String of Hearts which is a hanging plant and a Snake Plant. Wonderfully at this present time Monty and the Snake Plant (sounds like a band name!) are thriving and enjoying time in my home, I have repotted Monty twice since I first got him and he has just kept growing and growing, my Snake Plant is pretty low maintenance, giving that it is a desert style plant, which then makes it less likely to murder, unfortunately the string of hearts died a slow death, I tried watering… View Post

School Can Be Cool by Maleka Mamuji Kindle Edition // Review

School Can be Cool is a wonderful collection of five short stories by the wonderful Maleka Mamuji who came to England when she was six years old from Kenya and uses her memories from her experiences as a child during those times, she wrote the book in the hopes to help children enjoy their own experiences at school which as we know can be full of scary and new situations. The first story ‘Rashida’s first day in a new school’ tells the tale of a little girl who comes Kenya to Manchester and has to start a brand new school in a new country, Rashida experiences the normal sorts of worries as any other child would, making new friends and being able to fit in and misses her old friends from her other school, she dreams that her new school headmistress is a grumpy woman and that her new teacher kept giving her hard work that she couldn’t do, many other fears occurred in her dream that caused her to wake up in a fright and hide under her bed which is where her mother finds her in the morning. after getting ready for the day she meets her new headmistress,… View Post

Why I Support Big Cat Rescue.

I have been thinking about writing this post for a little while now, and as I sat down the other day on my phone reading I decided to, for the first time since I discovered Big Cat Rescue, donate and support them. I first learnt of the Florida based sanctuary from youtube, I don’t completely remember what video I watched but from that moment when I saw these beautiful and unfortunately abused animals live much happier lives at the safe hands of Carol Baskins and her volunteers, I was hooked at learning more about them and supporting them. We’ve all heard of Big Cat Rescue now thanks to a shameful and god horrible lie of a Netflix documentary but if you actually take the time to read about them and understand what exactly is the lie then you will see deep down that yes, these animals are indeed in cages but compared to the abuse that the infamous ‘Tiger King’ placed upon these amazing animals then you could see that they are only putting the big cats first. The whole purpose of Big Cat Rescue is simply that they rescue, care for and love wonderful animals that haven’t had the best… View Post

Growing our own Butterflies with InsectLore // Review

Who doesn’t like butterflies? I know that my children do and after seeing Insectlore advertised all over my facebook in my homeschooling groups, the choice was made to order and try it out for our own enjoyment. Insect Lore is a wonderful company that supplies home schoolers and even actual schools with a fun butterfly garden pack that includes live caterpillars, a place to keep the butterflies when they hatch, due to the sheer popularity of Insect Lore when you place an order you have to select a set time in which you will be receiving your kit, I ordered mine to be delivered at the end of May and ill be honest, I sort of forgot about it all until it arrived at my front door. Coming in such a lovely box with all the instructions on how to feed and care for your butterflies which I found perfect for children to look over and read I couldn’t fault this company or their care of their insects and products. The caterpillars come in a small plastic tub which contains the food in which they eat during their growth period which took roughly a week for them to become bigger… View Post
