• DIY Christmas Home Decor // Home

This year has been all about sustainability in my home, one of the biggest things we’ve done is DIY and making our own Christmas decor.

At the start of the year, back in the spring was when I actually got this fun little idea, we collected bags of pinecones during a walk with the single purpose of decorating and hanging them around the house come Christmas time.

Spring is the best time of year to collect pinecones as that is when they do begin to drop, I attempted to do this a few years ago but went to find them at winter without thinking, seeds drop in springtime!

but anyway.. here’s our little how to for creating your own decorations.

    What You’ll Need

    • Pinecones or any autumnal style outdoor plants
    • PVA glue (I used Mod Podge)
    • Glitter of your choice
    • String
    • A glue gun.

    How To Do It.

This is such a simple DIY that it doesn’t take a lot of explaining or even planning, add your glue into a bowl, pour your glitter in another bowl dip the pinecones into the glue, then the glitter and set aside to dry, once dry I shook the excess glitter off and sprayed with hairspray to prevent further drops.

Using the glue gun, glue the sparkly pinecones to the string and voila! Your own handmade Christmas decorations that you can use for years to come!

I hung ours on my faux fireplace and they honestly look beautiful and so sparkly next to the lights.

Have you made your own decorations this year?

I recommend grabbing them in the spring time as that’s when they are all fallen off the trees as the seeds are being released, good luck making some homemade decorations!
